ATS Christmas Lunch grows in popularity

The tradition of having a Christmas gathering for the Anglo-Thai Society has grown over the last few years from just three people meeting in a bar to a hugely jolly event of 60 people.  This year, on 17th December, the event took over the entire Nipa restaurant in the Lancaster Hotel, which overlooks Hyde Park.

The impeccable arrangements of Tui Thapthimthong were again in evidence, although he couldn’t attend the event himself and Dr Orapin Dawson and David Fall were the hosts.  As we all tucked into the excellent food, members of ATS were joined by friends from the Tourist Authority of Thailand. (TAT) and the wives and partners of Thai Embassy officials who belong to the Krachubmitre (‘Friendship’) Society.  As ever, the generosity of sponsors was astounding, to the extent that a present was provided for everyone through a lucky draw of the numbers that were placed on each individual place. We are most grateful to the Royal Thai Embassy, the Lancaster Hotel, Monsoon Wine, Warren Wood Wine,  Tam Nak Thai and Thai Tho restaurants.  Ms Bee Constable, as the Master of Ceremonies, ensured that this lucky dip was enormous fun.

It was such a wonderful start to the Christmas festivities and it is now a fixture in the in the Anglo-Thai event calendar

Reception held to meet Royal Thai Consuls

Royal Thai Ambassador's Residence - July, 2013

The Royal Thai Honorary Consuls, who act as representatives of Thailand all over the UK and Ireland, gathered for a reception on a bright summer evening in July at the Residence of H.E. Mr Pasan Teparak, the Royal Thai Ambassador to the UK. The committee of the Anglo-Thai Society (ATS) and  of The Association of Thai Businesses in the UK (ATBUK) were honoured to be invited to attend too, in order to strengthen the scope of coordination between all these groups dedicated to fostering mutual understanding between the two countries.

During this very pleasant evening, where new friends were made and ideas were exchanged, Mr John Edwards Iles, Royal Thai Honorary Consul in Cardiff, was presented with  the King's medal, the  Royal Decoration, Commander of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand, in recognition of his excellent work and dedication in promoting the Kingdom of Thailand. The evening was a reminder of how widespread the mutual interest between the UK and Thailand is in this country and what great benefits it brings in terms of fostering both personal and business relationships.

Piano Recital by Prach Boondiskulchok

On 10 April 2013, at a joint event of the Anglo-Thai Society (ATS) and the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL), some 70 music lovers enjoyed a performance by the talented young Thai pianist, Prach Boondiskulchok, in the Princess Alexandra Hall at Over-Seas House, the headquarters of the ROSL in St. James’s, London.

The performance comprised Bach’s Italian Concerto, CPE Bach’s Sonata in E Minor, the world premiere of Prach’s own composition “Lullaby”, and Listzt’s Piano Sonata in B Minor. The enthralling hour-long performance was followed by a reception.

Proceeds of the evening will go to Princess Galyani’s Fund for the Promotion of Classical Music, as a joint donation from the ATS, the ROSL and Prach Boondiskulchok.
