Tuesday, 10th May - 7:00 pm at The Royal Over-Seas League
David Fall CMG, former British Ambassador to Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, will give a talk entitled “Released into the Community - recollections of an ex-Excellency”. The venue will be the Royal Over-Seas League, Park Place, off St James’s Street, London, SW1A. Doors will open at 7.00pm. A pay-bar will be available before and after the talk, which will begin at 7.30pm.
The talk will be a light-hearted examination of the more pantomime aspects of British diplomacy and will focus mainly, but not exclusively, upon David’s time as Ambassador in Thailand from 2003 to 2007. It will cover such burning issues as prominent Ambassadors in the 1970s and their dragon wives, over-blown egos, not climbing the Kremlin Wall, the country with the least respect for Excellencies, the perils of diplomatic uniform, dressing up a a wizard, living in a former brothel, unpredictable interpreters, Battersea Dogs’ Home and the end of a Golden Age.
The cost will be £15 for members of the Anglo-Thai Society and affiliated organisations, £18 for non-members, and £10 for students.
