Older members will be saddened to hear of the death in Bangkok of Edith Stewart at the age of 80 on 7th August, 2015. Edith, who first arrived in Bangkok in 1969 is perhaps best known for the fact that she was Matron of the Bangkok Nursing Home from 1975 to 1999 and many expatriate babies were born under her watchful eyes. She was also very active socially and was a great supporter of the St Andrews Society, achieving the honour of being elected its first Lady Chieftain. She was also the longest serving lady member of the British Club Bangkok (she joined 5 days after landing in Bangkok) and had been elected onto the General Committee in March this year. She felt that amongst her proudest moments there were two events. The first being presented to King Bhumiphon Adulyadej on the centenary of the St Andrew’s Society and the second was going to Buckingham Palace to receive her MBE from the Queen.
Bangkok will miss her greatly.
