ATS Educational Awards for Excellence 2017

This year's ATS Educational Awards and Reception was held on Friday 17th November in the ornate surroundings of London’s Oriental Club. The evening proved to be an extremely memorable one with a record number of talented student award winners, many of whom were accompanied by their PhD supervisors.

The aim of the Awards is to recognise the exceptional academic achievements of Thai post-graduate students in the UK and is strongly supported by the Royal Thai Embassy. In his speech, His Excellency Mr Pisanu Suvanajata, the Ambassador of Thailand, commended the Anglo-Thai Society on its initiative. He paid tribute to the excellence of UK education and the historical links between the two kingdoms.  He commended the many talented Thai students studying in the UK and the importance of their research to the future development and prosperity of the Thai nation. He also spoke enthusiastically about exciting technological innovations which are taking place across Thailand.

A highlight of the evening was the enlightening speech by the keynote speaker Dr Teerakiat Jareonsettasin MD, MRCPsych (UK) the Minister of Education for Thailand. He spoke about the evolution and development of Thailand’s education system and his vision for the future. He praised the work of the Thai students and the importance of returning to Thailand to share their expertise.

The Award winners thanked sponsors, their supervisors and the Anglo-Thai Society for their awards. Mr Steve Buckley, Chairman of the Anglo-Thai Society thanked Mr Yos Euarchukiati for his generosity in sponsoring this year’s awards in memory of the late Mr John Weston; the Academic judging panel; The Royal Thai Embassy and other sponsors which include ThaiBev, Bangkok Bank, No.5 Chambers, Pearson, and Thai Business Development. Chair of the Awards, Mrs Angela Cleary, concluded the event by commenting how fitting for the Awards to take place on Nov 17th which commemorates International Student Day. She also praised the students for inspiring the audience with details of their research in so many academic disciplines.

The Awards continue to attract prestigious sponsors who wish to be associated with an event which recognises the tremendous wealth of talent of Thai students in the UK. Sponsorship for the Awards is most welcome from individuals, societies and companies.
